Postcards from Poland: Trójka Radio Treasures

Warsaw, Poland Warsaw, Poland
Warsaw, Poland Warsaw, Poland

This year, I spent New Year’s in Warsaw, Poland, hangin’ with my fam. It was just about in the tween degrees outside everyday (that’s Fahrenheit for your reference) and thus a lot more time was spent in the car rather than walking around to our various stops. We listened to a radio station called Trójka and gosh darn it if I didn’t find myself Shazamming a bunch of the tracks they played.

Here are a couple flashback tracks they played from the ’70s-’80s. Judge me accordingly.

Yes, I’m aware that it is now 2015.

“Let’s All Chant” – Michael Zager Band (1978)

“You’re My Heart, You’re My Soul” – Modern Talking (1984)

And now here’s an actual, current Polish track that caught my ear. Throw the lyrics in the Google translator if you like.

“Pył (feat. Justyna Święs)” – Fisz Emade Tworzywo

Happy New Year, strangers. Na zdrowie!

Video: “Meow the Jewels” is REAL

Timmy - Meow the Jewels

My cat Timmy and I just did some catnip rips and sat down to watch the Meow the Jewels trailer. We are pleased.

Thanks to a bunch of furball fans who donated more than $50,000 real dollars (and growing), Killer Mike and El-P will remix their album Run the Jewels 2 with all cat sounds. And a bunch of artists are lending a production paw to the effort, too — Bauuer, Boots, Dan The Automator, El-P, Geoff Barrow, Just Blaze, Killer Mike, Nick Hook, Prince Paul, Run The Jewels, Skywlkr, The Alchemist, Gaslamp Killer, and Zola Jesus.

Check out the Kickstarter campaign here. There’s still time to throw some more money at this thing!

Boom. Here’s the trailer. Cats and music forever.

Throwback Thursday: Fat Boys and The Beach Boys “Wipeout”

Here’s to the boys of summer.

If you wander around the Internet long enough, you will ultimately find the crossroads where the Fat Boys and The Beach Boys meet. And then… WIPE OUT.

Here’s a summer #tbt for ya. I don’t know whose idea this was, but here is a 1987 cover version of the Surfaris’ “Wipe Out,” as performed by the Fat Boys, with The Beach Boys doing their signature vocal harmonies.

Oh. AND THERE’S A VIDEO.

p.s. This reached #12 on the Billboard singles chart.

The Rock Cats @ Santa Monica Playhouse – 4.6.14

Forget Coachella. This is CAT-CHELLA.

Acro-Cats - Cat Circus Acro-Cats - Cat Circus
Acro-Cats - Cat Circus Acro-Cats - Cat Circus

Yeah yeah human bands are cool. But, you guys: CAT BAND. Tonight’s Santa Monica Playhouse performance by The Rock Cats was the grand finale of the hour-long cat circus known as The Amazing Acro-Cats.

You might have seen these kitties on Buzzfeed.

But, you’ve gotta go see them in person (in cat?)! It’s like YouTube in real life! Your heart will melt and you will realize you’ve been saying awww-oh-look for an hour straight. It’s like catnip for humans.

A cat named Tuna plays cowbell. Dakota is a white cat with a lion cut who plays drums. A funny tabby named Oz plays guitar. And a whole cast of cats — and one chicken — accompany them. The whole furry crew is rescued and loved, and some can even be adopted.

Like Coachella, these cats will be rocking for the next TWO WEEKENDS at the Santa Monica Playhouse. Ticket and schedule info here.

My iPhone is now full of cat photos, so here’s a gallery of Acro-Cats highlights:
